This is a pretty cool piece of freeware that monitors websites to see if they are up and running properly; So next time esato is down you can check via this...Its called Site up can can be downloaded

So it's likely that all it will do is ping the site every 1min/5mins/24hours/year or whatever you set it to, and when it doesn't get a response it'll warn you. What's wrong with the good old "Try and visit the site, and if it's dead try again later"

@MiXin that's exacltly what I do. The above s/w is a pain as the traffic stats and log files go through the roof as specifically checks TCP port 80 (http port)

This sounds like holding out an umbrella out of your balcony and check whether it gets wet so that we could figure out if its raining outside or not. :-D

If all it does is ping 24x7 then it'll be a serious bandwidth issue, wont it?

I've just installed it and it seems to work pretty good.
I've set the "Check site status" on 15 minutes so it doesn't overload anything.

but let's assume for the moment (humour me) that all 50000+ members would do exactly that... install it and check every 15 minutes.
Is there not the slightest chance of overloading anything?
besides...... what's the use for normal members anyway? I check when I want to go on esato and if it doesn't load the it simply doesn't load. I'll just come back another time

windows:
start>run>ping *website address*
or
start>run>cmd then ping *website address*
unix/linux/mac osx: launch a terminal then ping *website address*
this software is free and also comes as a basic part of nearly every os known to man so no need to download
