One thing that I have been meaning to post about which I discovered whilst researching whether to choose a S700i or Nokia 6630 was the two company's response to appeals for the Tsunami that hit Asia on Boxing Day 2004.
On the SonyEricsson site, there is a very clear banner at the botton on the first page asking for donations, and when you select the country to get the localised homepage (in my case the UK) the banner is very prominent, well designed and looks integrated with company policy (even sometimes overshadowing other content). It was certainly unique amongst many web sites, where there is a small banner that looks more of an afterthought, or a pop-up window (which is either blocked or ignored).
At the time, Nokia didnt have anything on their main page (and they still dont), though their localised UK page does have a banner.
Althoguh in the end this was NOT a reason why I chose the S700, but myself being a Sri Lankan it really did touch that a "faceless company" is actually making an effort to increase awareness of this disaster. Sure some may say its a PR stunt, but whatever the reasons, it was a very nice gesture. Thank you SonyEricsson.
(BTW, Ericsson, the parent company also provided some meaningful assistance, and i heard SE sent some 500 handsets for the aid workers to communicate. Again some may agure that they serve good PR, but certainly they helped)
