hi all i am getting a s700i on o2 next week i currently own a gx20 and a lg on 3 the thing i want to know is this on my 3 mobile i can send pics mp3s polys animated gif all via attachment from my yahoo e-mail address to my 3 mobile e mail address no need for cables or bluetooth or infa red has the 700i got an e-mail built in the phone that i can read my e-mail and recieve attachments? i only have net accsess at work and cannot get to the pc tower to attach cables or anything like that and i cant send the current mp3s from my 3 phone to another because the files are too big to send via mms i am in england help me please i like getting all my stuff free lol

so is it like 3 then i just pick a name like steve then it gives me the rest of the e-mail address like
steve@3mail.com ? and i can send mp3s and ringtones by right clicking with my mouse saving it on my computer then attaching what i saved to my yahoo e-mail address then send the attachment to my mobile e-mail address?

You can use the email client in your phone only if you have a gprs connection allowing access to pop3 servers. Does your operator provide you with one?

not sure yet i was gonna get the phone on o2 but after watchdog its been withdrawn of the o2 website and out of all the shops great eh i really wanted that phone!

Ok lets clear THIS one up...
the S700i (and k700, k500,f500, and pretty much every Ericsson/SonyEricsson phone since the T39) has POP3/IMAP support, allowing it to read emails directly into its inbox.
This will allow the phone to read most "proper" email systems. It also uses SMTP for outgoing emails.
Althoguh most have Email support, their capabilities vary from device to device. the best support is on the P series phones, where emails can be downloaded and viewed in full on the phone. Even attachments can be sent and recieved. and in the case of the P910i, it even supports IMAP folders (VERY good!). The Pxxx series will also synchrosize to Outlook,a nd duplicate your outlook inbox, similar to the way the Palm Pilots worked.
The most "basic" support is on the T39/T68i/T300/T610 where the phoen will connect to a POP3/IMAP server, and retrieve the last 10/20 messages. You can choose where to download just the header, or the full message. If you want to read any messages older than the last 20 messages, you select the "view older" option to create another connection to download the next 10/20 messages.
When viewing messages it displays in "pages" of up to 400 chars or so at a time. To view the next "page" you have slect "next" and another connection is made to the server to download the next messages.
This is due to the limited memory on these devices.
Attachments cannot be viewed, but selected messages can be saved. In POP3 mode, messages when deleted on the phone, will automatically be deleted from the server. In IMAP phone, they are "marked as deleted" instead, due to the way IMAP works, as IMAP purges messages after a day or so, automatically.
The IMAP support is suprisingly good, as the phone will recognise if the message is already read on another computer, and display it accordingly, and when a message is read on the phone, it is marked as read on the server. Folders are NOT supported however.
For outgoing mails, you are able to send mails of a max of 500 chars, and include attachments of photos and sounds. The messages are sent via SMTP (please see below for some caveats).
The S700i/K700i, and F500 extend the capabilities somewhat, due to the extra memory on board these devices. For starters, you are able to recieve certain attachments, such as pictures, and save them. Also when viewing a message, although it is still displayed in "pages" of 1000 chars, viewing the next pages DOESNT cause a new WAP/GPRS connection to the server, as the entire message is downloaded into the memory. There is also a bug in my S700i where it doesnt easily show on the screen whether a mesage that hasnt been downloaded is "read" or not, my T610 WAS able to shwo those differently.
You can use both GPRS or a standard CSD call to your ISP to send/recieve mail.
When using CSD, you can use your existing ISP's dialup numbers and Incomming and Outgoing SMTP servers. The sony ericsson web site provides easy settings that can be sent to the phone for most common ISPs. The disadvatage of CSD is obviously you may for each call, and the time online. though with carefull use, this can be minimised.
With GPRS the connection is very quick and you are not charged for the TIME online, and you can use your exisiting GPRS connection to communicate with most POP3/IMAP servers. I am not sure about other countries, but in UK, all the four main providers allow you to connect to an external POP/IMAP server through GPRS.
The only issue with GPRS comes when sending out emails. you have to use your Mobile provider's SMTP server to send out emails, even if your POP3 server is with someone else. In the case of Orange, this is simple, and works well. But T-Mobile UK, because the SMTP server requires a username and password, and the fact that the S700 does not support authenticated SMTP, you will not be able to send mails through the phone via GPRS. This problem does not exist on the Pxxx series, as the mail client there DOES support authenication on SMTP.
But for simple reading email, nearly all Sony Ericssons certainly support this, and its a very handy feature for me.

its on here some where but apparently the k500 and the s700 are not fully compatable with the o2 network so for the time being they have been dropped by o2(try to find the handsets on o2 website!) so o2 at the mo are only supporting 2 se phones
