Most convenient is the use of bluetooth, no wires and you can freely move around the laptop. A pc-card BT adapter is about £100-150 here in Sweden.
The cable, is good for a secure connection. Costs about £20.
IR, is often included in the laptop, and therefor the cheapest solution. But it's not that convenient, it must have "eye contact" to the port, or it will switch off. I don't know the cost of an adapter, but I'd say, go for BT or cable, if your pc hasn't got built in IR.

Most convenient and expensive: BT (once you get it working)
Most versatile: Cable (you can do everything)
Cheapest wireless: IR (USB IR adapter ~US$30 and up) but not very usefull if you are in a car or on a train.
