Just out of my 12 month contract and trying to figure out the best course of action.
Currently on Orange and relatively happy with it. Us about 200mins, 5Mg, 10 mms and 100 sms per month. Overall Orange are just about cheapest, though I should be able to get them to throw in some free sms as part of their price match. The question is apart from this what might I get for staying another 12 months ?
Will they match other networks "introductory offers"..... 6 months 1/2 price rental for example ?
They have offered me a free upgrade, but I have a P900 so its more of a downgrade really. Could I take a S700 off them and give it the other half who is presently O2 PAYG? Will it work?
Anybody's experiences would be gratefuly welcome.
Quite fancy the idea of a phone with Wi-Fi...... any advice ?

Orange wont give you a S700i as they dont supply them. If you want a S700 you have no choice but to change networks.

Your bargaining power is basically dictated by your spend. The more you spend, and the longer since your last upgrade, the better your position. As JC said, Orange do not do the S700i, but if you want something that you could consider an upgrade, and you're looking for Wi-Fi, take a look at the Orange SPV M2000, equivalent to the T-Mobile MDA III and O2 XDA IIs (aka i-mate PDA2K), which is a PocketPC device, and the only handset (available on Orange, since you can't get the Nokia 9300 or 9500 yet) that has more functionality than a P900.
My guess is that you will have to pay for it, though, and the more they discount your handset price, the less likely you are to get more freebies in your monthly deal. However, if you want some free SMS, try and OVP O2 200 or something that is £5/month less than the Orange Your Plan 200, and includes 50 SMS.
And you probably will have to mention that you can get a better deal elsewhere, in order to get a substantial discount. Might be a good idea to have a look around the web to arm yourself with some genuine deals to get them to match.

The comparison between Orange an O2 200 min tariffs. As far as I can see they are both £30, and the 50 texts is the only advantage that O2 has. Unless you know something I don't !

the other difference is maybe that O2 are offering double talk and text for the first 6 months, so in effect you're getting O2 400 + 100 txt instead od O2 200 + 50 txt. but this is only for new customers so they may not price match.
I actually managed to get my S700i free on upgrade with O2 - a culmination of me threatening to leave and start a new contract, and them completely messing up the charges for it. They did agree to give me the upgrade for £39.99, but they seem to have refunded the lot back on to my bill!
My advice is just speak to the cancellation dept, like as said above, and they should be able to sort you out with a better deal

Nope, you're quite right - the lateness of the hour seems to have made me confuse the 200 comparison with the 400 tariff, on which O2 are £5 cheaper - sorry!
But there is another advantage - free voicemail on the O2 equivalent.

Mostly SIM-free phones are sold seperate and the service is separate. (Except RIM, which is CDMA
) .

Think they have cocked up on my bill for the last 12 months as I should have been charged 5p/min for message retreival.
However they seem happy to take it out of my minutes.... which I'm more than happy with.

if you are on a tariff where voicemail is not included then they take voicemail retrieval out of your free minutes.
