Hi all,
A month ago I bought a K500i which had a tear off problem in the face cover of the phone. I took 2-3 day to swap my phone. And now I realized that my LCD screen has a dead pixel.
Accoording to Sonyerricson up to 3 dead pixels is acceptable.
It is very starnge sony has the same policy for 15 inch lcd monitors.
It is not TQM or ISO or what ever....
It is not customer driven market....
It is "I did it you buy it" market....
Some one has to solve that dead pixel issues. It is the only reason I am not using lcd screen and I stuck in CRT....
Any comment please?

Sadly this is the thing from most manufacturer's. It is rare for a phone to have dead pixels but because of the way LCD technology is manufactured dead pixels are unavoidable. I have one on my 17" LCD monitor, but I have learned to live with it.
You could buy a new screen from
this site.

There is no way a company can guarantee you of a dead pixel free screen inspite of the strictest quality control methols and latest production techniques. They however can replace the product with even one dead pixel if confident of themselves. To the best of my knowledge nintendo promises to do that with ds console and also samsung with its lcd screens i think(not phone ones). Sony and other companies are pretty relaxed on the matter and allow even upto 8 dead pixels dependin on the kind of dead pixel.

Even one dead pixel is not acceptable to me. I would demand a replacement, if it's still under warranty.

Er...unfortunately these are the terms and conditions of the warranty, so 1 dead pixel will not even be regarded as a defect coverable under warranty.

I just checked the warranty certificate that came with phone. There was nothing in it that stipulates that. The certificate is so vague that even an out of the box dead phone could be claimed as not covered.
With enough pressure and tenacity, anybody could claim this problem is covered under warranty.

After 3 months of usage, i have noticed no particular trouble,except for the phone restarting. I think you are very unlucky. :-( you can go to your service centre and shout. Or get it exchanged from the shop you boughit it.

The certificate is delibrately made that way and its all termed under limited warranty so such clauses can be told later on if need arises. In view of cell phones this is a minor issue as yet so official statements are not made but is a well known issue now in tft monitors and mostly all brands require 4 dead or 8 dim pixels before replacin your monitor. There is no way you can get a screen replaced with just one dead pixel.
