How many pics do you have? How big (total mb)?

Access time. The phone has to read all that data and then create thumbnails to show you. The bigger the folder contents the longer it will take for the processor to effectively read all.

Thats pretty normal since high res generally take a lot of memory and the phone creates thumbnails for all of them.

But, the thumbnails are not always shown... why? Many of my pics just has this 'icon' (looks like a person) as a thumbnail, instead of an actual preview of the picture.

Even then, IMO 55 secs is too long. In fact, the lag (present almost everywhere) is one of the reasons why I sold mine.

The lag is also present in the k series when taking pics in extended mode. But 55 sec is too much, it is less than 10 seconds here. This message was posted from a K500

I used to have the same problem but fixed it. If the picture attached to a contact no is taken with the s700 (ie is not imported to the phone) and has a resolution of 320x240 there is no lag at all regardless of the no of pictures stored in the memory stick (i have around 200 pics stored in my 128 mb mstick).
