I just got the player and have had the same problem! However, if I hit yes, the songs play anyway. It's still a pain, though. I'm using a PCMCIA card adapter in my Powerbook G4 (OSX) to load the MMC card with songs. (By the way, the PC Card is SLOOOOOOW. Is that the MMC format's fault? My CompactFlash PC Card adapter is pretty zippy.)
I was afraid it's somehow due to my using MacOSX. I was also thinking that perhaps the player can't handle variable bitrate (VBR) encoded files. Anyone know?
Overall, the music sound quality is good. But I've gotten complaints about the handsfree quality from people on the other end of the line.
One final bitch: Why the HELL in 2002 would Ericsson include a frickin' PARALLEL PORT MMC reader?

Regard the error message.
I put my MMC card in a friends Palm device and when I put it back into the MP3 player I got this message.
It turned out that the palm wrote a small file to the MMC like an .ini file. When I deleted this file on my PC the error was gone.
It might be caused due to how your Trash Can settings are configured. Ensure that Windows does not set up a Trash Can on your removable drives as this will set up a file on your mmc card also.
Regarding variable bit rates. I use the dBAmp freeware that allows conversion from wma/mp3 to wma/mp3 at any bit rate including variable.
I played about with these to see if I could get better compression with less quality loss. They played perfect but I didn't notice any difference so I now stick with 96kbs which is fine for me.
Hope this helps

Also
I believe the MMC format must be slow. I have Compact Flash, Smartmedia mmc & microdrive cards and the mmc is a lot slower on data transfer (write). I bought a USB reader instead of parallel supplied but still a lot slower.
I have tried the mmc in two USB readers now and the new 64MB cards I have bought are no different.
I can transfer 128mb of mp3's to my smartmedia card quicker than 64mb to my mmc.
Tried with both Win98SE, W2K & WinXP

I'm using HPM-10 as well..i wonder if u guys encounter this problem.
I compress my songs to 96kbps using DBAmp..den when i listen to the songs in my PC..they sound alright..but when i listen from my phone..some of the songs while playing, tends to jump to another song!

I have had this before.
an mp3 file somehow gets corrupt and one runs into the other without finishing the first.
If I delete the file and put it on the card again everything is OK.
Just for interest. I have downloaded mp3 files before which come up as corrupted file using XP Windows media player but will still play under the dbAMP player. One such file at 192kbs I converted with dbAMP to 128kbs (good enough for me) and WMP8 then recognised it as an mp3!!! weird!!!
