> English Sharp 902 sh and receiving Japanese !
Bookmark topic
Hi!
I have been investigating the Sharp 902sh both English and Japanese releases because I want to be able to send and receive my e-mail in Japanese or English!
I contacted Sharp and explained to Technical Support my needs and they did some tests!
And wow!
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------
My colleagues have tested email on the 902 (English version) and found that it is capable at receiving Japanese emails. You may experience some anomalies with some characters, details of this are attached. J350 refers to the 902.
The attachment to the mail was an Excel spreadsheet showing Shift-JIS, JIS, EUC, 1 Byte Kana.
I also sent a text email to a manager at the local Vodafone shop, he also could see the Japanese in the email.
quote:
-------------------------------------------
にち The first character means 'day' the second and third shows one way to pronounce! どうも有難うございます!
--------------------------------------------
( I use Japanese auto-select to display the above line. )
So it seems that the Sharp 902sh will display Japanese in the e-mail but there is no input method yet to allow entry of Japanese characters.
Maybe a Java applet will be developed to allow this but I have no undestanding of Java!
I will keep working on getting a Japanese handset!

@ Aiaich and good look to ya. How does the handset perform anyway? Is it a cool handset? Why do you require Japanese language on your phone. Do you speak Japanese?

Any chance the 902 can be unlocked?
Is it true that you can't play regular MP3 that you download from the web?

I don't have one yet. Wanted to check these things out ebfore buying one but it certainly looks good, but a bit large for some people, I guess.

I receive nearly all of my e-mail in Japanese and currently use a K700i and Tungsten T3 for my Japanese mail but wanted to use only one device. I know I could get a Treo 650 but.....
I can speak Japanese and make myself understood. Lots of vocabulary gaps though! I am not fluent!

I do not know the answer to these. I am hoping to get a Japanese 902 soon and to get it unlocked in the Japanese Vodafone shop.
I hear Vodafone only has a 3 month hold on this phone so maybe it will appear unlocked and unbranded soon ?
