is there a way to take a bunch of photos in quick succesion, or an app which does this? also, if it can be done, what PC software would be good for converting the taken pictures into an animated GIF? cheers...

And there you have it.
As far as I know, there's no software available to take camera-quality images for an animated gif. It's probably possible though, you just need to convince a developer that it's worthwhile. Or have a go yourself.

I don't believe the phones fast enough.
My Sony Digital camera can take upto 16 pictures a second but I don't think that helps much
