> Vodafone unable to push me! (emails)

*deep breath*
Aaaaaggghhhh!!!!!
Ok, that's better.
Right. Vodafone. I've not had a great deal of problem with them on the whole but then I've not tried to do much with them either.
That is...until now. Anyone who has read my many recent posts will know that I have upgraded to a P910 from a P900 recently.
One of the reasons for this move was the 'push' email feature. I asked about this in several Vodafone stores around the country (I get about a bit) and each time was told that it works like the blackberry system and yes I could use it with this phone on the Voda network.
Now that I have the phone and have finally resolved my email log-on issue (~2 weeks on hold) I have tried to sort out the 'push' emailing.
These efforts let to my calling Voda CSS again last night and was told that since the person I was talking to (and everyone in the room) had no idea what I was talking about I should call back after midnight when a technical support team would be answering the phone.
This, I did.
After explaining to this fellow what push email was (he did check with the room first) he preceded to check what I was saying with a Google search. (I would have put an exclamation mark here but I've become too cynical) Apparently, according to this genius' newfound knowledge 'push email' is a system of retrieving email from a pc via a bluetooth.
After explaining to this fellow what push email was (again) I relayed my story about being assured that I would be able to use the push email system on a p910 and Vodafone network. We continued to discuss the issue for quite a while (about 90 minutes), including my pointing him to other Google results which supported the information I had provided him with.
In the end he said that everyone else I had talked to about this issue in Vodafone was wrong and that they did not support push email on a p910. I had no option but to accept his words (and why would I doubt such wisdom?!) as he assured me that there was no higher/more technical department he could direct me to.
The only thing he did say he would do (after realising that I wasn’t going anywhere till he did something) was to escalate the details to the international support teams so they could (if nothing else) assure me that he is correct, Vodafone retail staff are Muppets and I am screwed.
Anyone know if this guy is correct / half right / a complete berk?

Well, I have no idea if he is right or wrong, but I suspect that if he had to do a Google search, AND he was working after midnight, then he's not particularly high up the tech support command chain.
To be honest though, I'd have made sure Vodafone were offering this service (details of it on their website, for instance) before I relied on getting the service. There is the possibility that it is currently only being trialled before being put out live.

@duffry
I'm amazed, given the amount of time that you've spent on the phone to Voda, that you haven't done a quick search here!

But rather than linking you to other threads (and because I sympathise as this mis-marketing is a bugger for a lot of us P910i users!) I will explain what I understand to be the situation regarding push email on the P910i:
The P910i
does support RIM BlackBerry functionality but none of the UK networks currently support this service on the

P-series at the moment, and there is no phone client available. This is apparently due to change, at least on O2 (and presumably on the other networks) in February. Apparently, the massive delay has been due to a legal wrangle with RIM over the licensing of their software, which has now been resolved.
However, if you are either skeptical of this actually materialising (as I am!) or you do not wish to wait and see, you can already get push email on your P910i (irrespective of network) through a company called Smartner (www.smartner.com) and their Duality program. If you want to link into corporate email on an MS Exchange server or the like, you can use either their Professional or Enterprise versions (£3.50 or £12 per month respectively). The difference being that the Professional is a desktop PC client which does not require any support from your IT department, and sits as a piece of software on your desktop, and the Enterprise sits on a dedicated machine connected to your mail server and is for multiple users (this does require IT support). Alternatively, if it just POP3/IMAP4 mails that you want pushed to your inbox, they have an Internet Edition, that requires no PC client at all, and retrieves your mails directly from the 'net.
For more info on that, I recommend the website.
Hope that helps,
Dave

Yeah what the guy above said, also try taking it into one of the shop that said it does support it and ask them what the feck is going on! Phone companys are useless un-helpfull arseholes.

Dave_uk. You are a scholar and a gent.
Thank you.
I have only recently found this forum and don’t seem to get on with the search (is there a way to search just the p800/900… forum bit?). I have since decided to take the tack of 1, hassle Vodafone as much as possible while browsing/reading/etc. and 2, ask the damn fine people here what they think on each issue I have (yes, there are plenty).
I do doubt the Feb date but will pass this on and see if I can get my friendly Vodafone/google genius to keep a track on things.
As for the smartner option: I will track it down in the morning and explore with relish.
Many thanks again.
TBH the push email is far from essential atm but it was a firm ‘would like to have’ and so was miffed to find it lacking.
Toke:
The people at Vodafone have been very helpful, well, as much as they can be. I have given them a hard problem and they have put efforts in to resolve it. Sure I didn’t give them a lot of choice, but they were always polite. They are however useless. At least their training is. Even basic call centre customer care skills are poor. If someone had said to me “Ok sir, I have the details of your query. I can’t answer it now but I will pursue the matter as far as I can and come back to you with an answer as soon as I can. In the mean time would you like me to call you each day to let you know that I haven’t forgotten and how it is going?”
This would get me off the phone, off their back and given them time to have a damn good look about to find an answer (more than just Google searches!).
Anyway, end-rant. Thanks again for your help guys.

Hi, guys
If you want to have email pushed (and even calendar and contacts synchronised 'a la Blackberry') but don't want to maintain any server running all day, there is a small company offering this service for individuals. It's called m-Communitas (www.mcommunitas.com) and it doesn't look very expensive... especially with the current pound/dollar exchange rate
It's a US company, so not sure if it'll work for Vodafone... you might want to drop them an email.
Cheers
