Hi,

I am using WIDCOMM version 1.4.2 Build 10.

The trouble is that im having some trouble with it.

I have the BT icon in the taskbar but most of the time its frozen and I cant click on it until i restart the machine.

Is anyone else having this problem? Ive ried re-installing the S/W but no luck.

TIA

XP Pro,

I would use the quick connect form the taskbar maybe once, then after that it would freeze (just the icon) and I can't use it.

When shutting down XP it says the BT TrayIcon has busted and I need to end the task???

What versions od WIDCOMM are others using?

Dou you have Service Pack 2 installed?

In general you can't do much with the taskbar icon, you should initiate the connection through the SE software and let that do the connecting. What your OS does is not more than making the comports available and pair the devices. After that there is nothing to be done there, even after a restart (once paired is always paired).

i used to have the exact same problem and quite often too. I overcame the problem by getting another program to initiate the serial port connection. you can get it free here http://www.ephebe.f2s.com/ProximityConnector.htm
follow the instructions and whenever you want to initialise the serial port simply open the apps (btw use trayit its alot cleaner that way). it stops the freezing and need to restart, works a charm.

alternatively install service pack 2 for xp pro, but make sure u know how to overcome the generic radio it installs, just pm me if u go that route and get bogged down. i find everything is alot more stable with SP2 and the proximity connector works fine as well

Hope this was helpful, its not a solution but more a method of subverting the problem

I had the freezing icon very frequently. To reactivate your icon without restarting, you can use the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete), and look for BTTray in the processes window. Then end the process. You should find a shortcut to restart BTTray in your Startup folder in the Start menu.

I have managed to prevent this freezing icon problem by going through the process described by DEAGLE in this thread:

Maybe that will help.

I've notice if you use "Quick connect" from task bar, it will freeze up alot. It never freezed on me when I go into My Bluetooth Place and make connections from there.

O, when going into my BT places, should I connect to the serial port that is shown, or should I search for availabale devices and the connect?
