Hi all,
Does anyone know of any companies offering unlock services & cables (T28 serial data cable I think) other than unlockmymobile.com (which has a broken payment system) and mobilefun.co.uk (which isn't responding to query emails).
I'm on Orange and realise they can do it themselves at a shop, but that way I don't get a cable for future use, right

?
Cheers in advance!

What is meant by "unlocking"?
Are you talking about releasing a phone so that it can work on any network? Or is that theres a phone that been security locked with a password and you want to "unlock" it so that the phone is accessible?

I am talking about the network release of which you speak. I relise 'unlock' is an overloaded and unnecessarily artifically polysemous word

. Almost everyone I've ever spoken to about this practice calls it 'unlocking'.

to be honest,
alot of people come to the store and say i want my phone unlocked.
this to the average joe bloggs means 3 things most of the time.
1. debarring the handset from a network (which is illegal)
2. unlocking the unit from one network to enable you to use other sim cards in the phone.
3. Resetting the security code.
drives us bananas!

so are points 2 and 3 allowed?
If my phone was stolen, and found by someone in a "locked" state, can they get passed the lock by using this service? Sounds dubious to me!

Yeah sounds it to me too!
I bought a p800 off ebay, with no equipment and a dodgy screen, and it was SIM locked. I asked the guy for the code, but no-go. He said it was a friend's and he'll ask him tomorrow, but when he did his friend told me 12345. It wasn't so I sent it back. I'm just glad I got a refund.

@nickorooster
I think the code you are refering to is the phone lock code, which is default 0000.
A sim lock or more correctly NCK needs to unlocked with a code to enable use with other networks.
