GPRS, WAP, MMS and Email setup
> t39 gprs on Laptop

Hi everyone. I'm new to all of this so please be patient with me and help me out. Thanks to everyone the excellent info posted here. I currently can establish a Bluetooth GPRS connection with my Toshiba 6100 and T39.
The problem I'm having is when I attempt to use Microsoft Explorer to surf. No matter what web site I try to visit I get error saying unable to find. Windows shows connection is made @ 115Kbps. I'm fairly certain that GPRS setup in T39 is correct because I can WAP on GPRS with phone no problem and when using laptop to connect the phone and laptop both show a connection was made.
What am I missing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Some telephone companies (like Telenor here in Norway) have different setups for general internet usage and wap'ing so although you can use wap it is not for sure you can surf through you laptop using the same connection. You better check that with you phonecompany. I must have two different dataconnections defined in the phone, one for wap'ing with the phone and anotherone for use through my laptop or Palm.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I think you must be correct. I tried to use "Internet" as the APN on the T39 but this did not work. I am on the Cingular network in Southern California. I have an IPAQ 3870 and Toshiba 6100 & can establish a gprs connection but can't surf internet. Has anyone out there been sucessful? If someone has the settings available for the T39 and/or IPAQ and/or Laptop, that would be a graet help. Also I'm not sure Cingular even supports internet through gprs. I did manage to connect to the internet with a gsm connection but it was very slow, 9.6Kbps

Hi. I work for Síminn (Iceland Telecom) making directions for the advanced phone features such as GPRS.
You should do the following: Check with your operator wich GPRS subscription you are using. We have 2 subscriptions, one for WAP only and the other one opens up the entire Internet for you. Each subsrciption has it's own APN address. If you connect to the Internet and everything seems to be ok except you cannot download anything you are probably using a wrong APN or possibly one that is only for WAP. That also explains why the phone works for WAP.
The APN settings are stored in the phone, so no matter what you do in your laptop or iPAQ you will not get anything downloaded unless you fix the GPRS Data account stored in the phone.
Just my piece of advice!

Voicestream does not allow direct browsing on port 80. You have to use their proxy on port 8080. Maybe Cingular has a similar setup.
