> Voda(UK) K700i Firmware
Bookmark topic
Hi.
I'm a new poster but have been browsing the forum for ages.
My problem. I'm desperate to update the Vodafone firmware on my phone to be able to use MP3s as ringtones etc. etc. I have a sync station, DRM software, the works. But I have an early K700i on Vodafone with the MP3 features blocked out. When i got the phone, I immediately got it flashed to the latest version but this was still before the patch for the MP3 features was released by Vodafone. Since i heard about the update and a friend got a newer handset with the feature enabled, I have been struggling to find somewhere to update the phone since the shop I was using can no longer offer the service as SE have withdrawn it?!
So several months of pestering Vodafone, I find a local Car Phone Warehouse than can do on site upgrade for me. Great - problem finally solved.
Got the phone flashed on Tuesday and oh dear. First of all, I now have only 8 icons on my menu not 9, bottom right icon has gone and is blank. It looks hideous! Phone is now slower, pics associated with contacts arent working properly, the 1 sec delay on answering is still there, and i still cant use MP3 ringtones!!
On the software info screen, the first line says R2A041, but scrolling down to the 'Customization' bit at the bottom, amongst other numbers, it say R2N002. Having searched for that number on the forum, I can find no threads relating to that number.
Have they messed up my phone with the wrong software or am i doing something wrong with my MP3 files? I have an MP3 tone purchased from Vodafone Live! with genuine Voda DRM and even that doesnt work!
If it helps here is the software details for my phone as it is at the moment:
Top of the page on S/W Info screen:
R2A041
prgCXC127897_EU_2_C
Customization:
CDA102298/4 R27A
cxc125822 R2N002
VFE_2
Hope someone can make sense of some of this? Getting close to 'loosing' the phone and getting a new one on the insurance.
Thanks.
James.

Thanks but im not spending money, this is meant to be sorted under warranty. You cant use the USB cable for that sort of thing anyway.

It sounds to me like they flashed the Customisation Firmware and forgot to do the actual operational firmware?
If you p browse around the forums for Divinci and Total Multi Serve or something along those lines you will find plenty of info on how you can flash and unlock the phone yourself. You can buy credits for about £7.
But like you said it is all covered under warranty.
I'd just take it back and show them what has happened and that it hasn't actually got the latest firmware at all.

What sort of cable have you got?
I say just buy yourself a credit and flash the phone with SE software. The phone will be much better without the branding. Vodafone are the worst offenders when it comes to phone modification on the K700.
Even if you have got a DSS-25 or T28 service cable you can get a T28 cable for £15 with a credit.

Thanks Furic, if perhaps i had a different cable i might consider trying it flashing it online, but i only have the SE Sync Station, which to my knowledge, doesnt work as its USB?
I intend to take the phone back, but can anyone pass comment on the software version my phone is reporting to have loaded? Is it new/old/wrong version or what?
bigal, as I've said I'm not prepared to spend money on this when it should be dealt with under warranty for free. Again, as I've already said, the latest Voda firmware does let you use Mp3s so long as the are coded with the DRM tool. I know this works as friend has a newer version of the phone. I'm not fussed about debranding the phone as Voda have made a better job of the k700 than they did with the t610 and i cant be bothered with the inconvinience of resetting all the user settings and the reloading all my photos etc.
