Positives? Some.
Multimedia (they inlcude 3G in this category) and Networking.
But these are the most important. Phones and Global results, right?

And people here really do want to know about the negatives coming from Nokia.

P.S.-They claim that there were 1.3M N-Gage sold last year.

i think nokia's loss of profit and market share has to do with flips...having been very popular for a while now, nokia were very very late to market with a descent flip which could stand up, so to speak, against other manufacturers handsets...add to that the funky design handsets they put out, and it adds up to a bit of trouble...but now, they are/have gone back to basics so speak...regardless of how much functionality the handsets they put out have, the first thing the general public see is the size and look of the handset..if they don't like...thats it..

i think nokia didnt do well (in money terms) compared to last year is because it tries to win back market share by lowering prices.

but it did very well in market share which is 34% in Q4. It sold 14mil more phones in Q4 compared to Q3. That's something like 28% increase continuing the trend seen in Q3.

This is in fact a good trend for Nokia. Don't forget that in 2003 Nokia did extremely well. So results for 2004 is good given the fact that it is comparing to a peak in 2003.

SE great 2004 figures on the other hand should be tempered a bit because the fact that 2003 was when SE was at its low. The fact that SE market share remain the same in Q4 compared Q3 2004 indicates the SE growth is lagging behind Nokia and Motorola.

Here's my opinion on the Nokia vs. SE battle.

Sony Ericsson tried different things, they adventured into a whole new world of funky looking mobiles while Nokia stuck with basic mobiles.

SE did the job properly, and people went out and bought that funky new phone that did everything.

SE Sold phones to people who wanted to look sophisticated (sp) and stylish at the same time.

Nokia sold phones to people who wanted a phone, they knew would work.

Now, Nokia has seen how well other companies are going with these funky phones, they have done their best to keep up, thinking that they will sell the phones because of their name. It really backfired.

They tried, they failed, and I can see them going back to their original basic, working phone.

However, I feel the damage has been done. All it takes is one or two phones that are complete junk, and a name is soiled.

Nokia didn't release one or two junk phones, they released 10 - 20, and now I feel, their name is hanging on the edge.

If they don't regain their name, they will fall, and they won't come back easily.

This is just my opinion, but I think people have seen that Nokia is trying new things, and they don't like that, so they are going to go with a brand that knows what they are doing. Like SE.

Nokia - Should stick with basic phones, there will ALWAYS be a huge market for this.

SE - COntinue to do what they do best, make a new phone that is funky, and cool, does everything, while they don't have the best name, they are slowly making it back to that Number 1 status they so truely deserve.

If this doesn't make sence, sorry.
