Just wondering (as I might attempt it tonight), how long does it take to flash a K700i with the generic firmware?

It depends what cable you are using.
USB = upto 921600 baud
T28 = 115200 baud

The actual process took 7 minutes for me but remember you need to download the firmware from the net and that took me over an hour but I'm on dial up.
