Guys, sorry if this has been discussed already, but search didn't give me the answers i needed.
My problem: got a Voda (A1 Austria) V800. Now it automatically searches for 3G networks and even finds them. But i only want GSM network connection. (is it true that the 3g search drains the battery faster?)
I have the red 3G symbol showing up in the standby menu, and if i select a non gsm network via network select it switches back to a 3g after about a minute.
Now in the manual it says -> Connectivity -> Mobile networks -> GSM/3G Networks
but there is no such option as GSM/3G selection.
Please tell me I'm missing something in the options.
I fiddled around with that quite some time now, and lately I'm getting desperate
Hope s'body can help me.

@penef,

on my V800 ( UK spec, unlocked but dinn't debrand yet ), i dun have chance to change 3G/GSM. The service will just automatically swtich the best option for me..

If u do a network search, you can see the 3G icon beside the network name. And if ur telco also support 3G, another option will have a star icon fellow with vodafone logo. For me it's the 3G signal. u can select not to use it...

Regards,
CJ

Just set it to manual select instead of automatic and select the network of your choice.

I tried that already (manual and then select Voda-Network without star), but it's no good. Just selects the 3G after a few moments again.
And what does the little "G" above the signal strenght indicator mean?

In france you can't deactivate 3g search even in manual mode.
The phone is locked in 3G and even with a 2g sim card it will automaticaly switch to 3g networks (if there's one)

And that's a problem because often 3G signal strength is weaker than 2g signal.

I've been told it has been done in order to use 3g networks and to have less traffic in 2g ones...
I'm waiting for a good unbranding solution....

Hello,

it is now possible to add the "network mode" to all V800 models. This will enable you to change between 3g or 2g or select both.

Only Setool can do this.

Best Regards

Quick!.......................................... What are you doing? Step away from the phone!

Yes, maybe this option is added on newer phones (which i am pretty sure yours is lol) But the option is not enabled in the firmware but in the phones GDFS
