last month, i got my phone bill, and was surprised to see a EUR20 position on there. i thought, i had surfed a little too much, or sent too many images by mail.
but when i saw that i only transferred 1.220Kb, i was surprised.

so i called up my operator and told them they must have made some kind of mistake, and after a while it turns out that i pay EUR0,20 per 10Kb.
for WAP.
and my surfing was done via WAP.

so, how come i can't use web GPRS ???
is this something only opera is able to do? i tried selecting another data account for the integrated browser, but i was only able to select WAP.

???

help.

Call up your provider and ask them what kind of scheme you have subscribed to. If its only wap gprs, you can browse only wap sites. You have to activate full web gprs to browse html sites. This message was posted from a T230

but in my experience most companies charge the same per kb (or 10kb whataver) for GPRS WAP access as they do for full internet GPRS access so you'll probably end up paying the same anyway

That might be. But if its only wap, the overall data transfer must be significantly lower. Is he saying he can access only wap sites? This message was posted from a T230

WAP is a type of web page for small devices such as mobile phone and PDA while GPRS is a connection type. To get to a WAP sites you have to connect by GPRS or dial up. You don't connect by WAP.
If they charging you it's for data download.

Here in INDIA, WAP enabled GPRS is free with a rentel of 99 rs per month.... i am surprised how come some Western countries do charge for WAP as in per kb.... Only Full internet GPRS is charged and that too its not that expensive as 20 Euro per 10kb.... I would have gone bank currupt if in INDIA they would have changed 20EURO per 10Kb here its just 50p per 10kb that would end up to about 0.0087EURO.... Thank god your connection supplier is not active in india........

I have had all my settings from Vodafone for GPRS and I have been using it for ages. However in the

Control Panel/Connections/Internet Accounts/Other

There is an option for preferred mode where I can select "Automatic", "GPRS only" or "GSM only".

If I select "Automatic" or "GSM only" then I can browse the internet and accept calls. If I select "GPRS only" then I get a little icon in the bottom left of the screen saying the calls are disabled.

What is this setting for and what does it mean? Can someone explain please.

Thanks
