how come some sounds have the "edit" option, and some don't? under "sound info", they're identical--distribution "unlimited", and nothing distinctive that says they can or can't be edited...

if the ringtone is not in iMelody format, it can't be edited.

yep, it looks like you're right. all the ones i can edit are imelodies, and the ones that i can't edit are emelodies...

which now brings me to my next question: what exactly is the difference between an imelody and an emelody? and when i use the built-in "composer", does it make an imelody or an emelody? what are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

i-melodies are used by T68i or T68m with T68i FW....

1) They sound better than Emelodies.
2) Bigger melodies
3) Better sound ( like NOKIAS )
4) You can specify when you want to turn-off the light of your screen or even the led light while you hear the melodies
5) You can change the TEMPO
6) You can select to hear the melodie STACCATO like NOKIA
7)Can convert all NOKIA RTTL melodies to i-melodies..
and much more

But I've downloaded a few Imelody tunes and they sound much better and I am glad they done that with the T68i

thank you, mathmos! that cleared up a lot.

as for converting nokia imelody, i know the answer to that one: you can download the software to do that from christersson.org:

This topic has been discussed and detailed in a good way before. This post was posted from a T68i

yes, i searched and found hundreds of messages mentioning "imelody". when i searched for "edit" and "ringtone" or "sound" or something like that, i didn't find anything useful. maybe the information was out there somewhere, but it certainly wasn't easy to find. so shoot me for taking the "easy" way out and asking a question.

i really don't see why people have to complain all the time about something having been mentioned before. it's not always easy to find something even if it HAS been mentioned. if somebody asks a question, then he obviously either doesn't know how to search, or he searched and didn't find what he was looking for. and EVEN if something is repeated, what harm can that do? i've often found out things by reading other people's questions as they appear at the top of the list. so what if the question is repeated? after all, this is a discussion forum, new things can always pop up. and if you already know all about a certain topic--then just don't open it, instead of wasting your time and complaining that it's already been discussed.
