> K700i 3 sms limit problem?
Bookmark topic
OK, I am a newbie but I have search the boards for the answer to this problem.
My K700i from O2 (online contract) is great. Nice little phone, better then my old Nokia. I do have a problem though. When I first got the phone I was operating with about 25 sms capacity (give or take) and that lasted the first 6 months I had the phone. No problem. About 3 weeks ago though the total amount of sms capacity just fell away. Adding together Inbox/Outbox/Draft/Sent (all others are always empty) I have a capacity of 3 sms (if all are less than the 150? Char capacity). This is not easy to work with as apart from been a pain, if you write a txt and it does not send and your memory is full (i.e. I have 3 sms’s in there) I loose my txt.
My normal memory has about 30 meg free (though by reading other post this does not have any effect on sms memory).
Can anyone help offer me an explanation for this? Is there anything I can do? Is my memory corrupt? (Had no signs of this elsewhere, except I am struggling to move a few video clips to my desired folders, the phone just crashes out to the wallpaper).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the sms mem is totally separate to the phone mem. The 160 chars of the sms get stored as a 'block' in one section. If the total of the sent, drafts, saved and inbox is less than 100 when the phone is full it does suggest a problem or that the sms are being hidden in a totally random area. Have you tried the master reset?

Yup. A master reset should most probably do the trick.

6 months old? You probably will have an old firmware running. You can use the o2 onlie update to upgrade to the later R2ae software. This will most certainly solve your problem.

Thanks for all your replies.
Hopefully they will prove to be very useful. If I could just as a couple of questions though. I intend trying the Master Rest first and firmware second (at this stage).
1) Will the Master Reset make me loose anything. (i.e. Video's/Pictures or phone settings?). If i am to loose phone settings which ones are important for me to copy down to re-input?
2) I will look into upgrading the firmware though now, will i loose anything by upgrading that?
Thank you all,
Wish I knew there was a problem between o2 and k700i before i bought it! Thanks for the advcie.

The O2 and k700 problems only affect a small proportion of the phones sold, and is to do with the network not being able to send the sms to the phone. If the phone recieves sms then you don't have a problem. Before you do a reset, check that the phone memory and not the sim mem is being used for storage. The master reset for settings wont delete any files. On my orange k7, no connection settings get lost either. It's just bookmarks, volume settings etc that go. Not tried the reset all yet, not that brave!

For completeness O2 have decided to replace my phone with the above problem. I have been offered the following handsets as replacement:
Nokia 6230
Nokia 6610i
Sony Ericsson T630
Anyone got any view which is the wised choice?
Thanks for all the help given, its appreciated.
