> Use a P910i in the US
Bookmark topic
Hi, I'd like to know if anyone could tell me what would be the main difference if I was to use a P910i in the US rather than the P910a which is the one released particularly for that region. Will there be a major difference that I should change my current P910i to P910a? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Generally, you could use the P910i in the US. Except in a few areas that are only covered by the 850Mhz frequency. You have to check with the service provider(s) in a particular city to be sure. There are several telcos that you can get in touch with for this info. There is AT&T Wireless (the most expensive), Cincinnatti (less prevalent and almost as expensive as AT&T), T-Mobile and Cingular (the cheapest).
The P910a is sure to work in the US because it uses the 850Mhz instead of the 900Mhz that the P910i uses. The only drawback is that the reverse is true when you go out of the American region. You can't get a signal in countries that only use the 900Mz frequency.

I don't know if it's relevent, but i thought it might help,
I have a P905a which works fine in the United Kingdom, although i've only tested Orange and O2 sim cards in it.
Not sure about taking a P910i to the states though, should work

Oh then my P910i would be okay to use in the US. I was thinking that it might have problems there and that I might have to change it to the US version. Thanks a lot guys for your response!

- Bell South
- Bell Pacific
2) AT&T Wireless
- PCS

3) T-Mobile USA
- Voicestream Midwest
- Voicestream East Coast
- Voicestream West Coast

Well I just iterated on that. BTW I am a T-Mobile customer. In the US you got two choices. AT&T/Cingular use the 850/1900 band. T-Mobile the 1900 band. AT&T/Cingular overlays the 850 with the 1900 band. However the 850 band is higher quality (clearer reception and farther reaching). Depending on your needs reception wise you choose the carrier. For me I wanted to have the P900, so my only real choice was T-Mobile, but I also wanted to be able to use my phone worldwide, again T-Mobile is the better choice, because the 850 band is mostly used in the US. If you travel you will find the 900 and 1800 band more often.
However, if you need a larger coverage here in the US, the 850 band is the way to go, because AT&T and Cingular cover more ground than T-Mobile. Just depends on your personal need.
Summary:
If you use your phone mainly in the US use the P910a, if you use it mainly around the main arteries (highways) and travel abroad use the P910i.

having only thr 1900 band isn't a big issue, but you will sacrifice a bit of reception. I have a few friends with phones that don't have 850 and I get better reception and in more places, but they get reception most places.
It's a very small trade off.
