> What is this UK Orange menu?

Ello,
I have a debranded (ex-Orange) phone. Before I debranded, on the main screen, there was a kind of menu... it had 3 "bars" on it, the top bar was the phonebook, if u moved the joystick up to it, u could press left/right and it gave u "add contact" etc..
The second bar was for SMS, with similar options like "write sms".. and i think, but i can't remember properly coz i only had it for 2 days before debranding, if you got a message it would say "3 new messages", and also it would keep an indicator on screen when u receive a delivery report..
I can't remember what the last bar was... hmmm
Can any orange phone owners confirm this? (and maybe give a good description!
)
Also, does anyone who is not on Orange know what I'm rattling on about?
Does this kind of menu have a name?
And most importantly, can I customise it and use it on my debranded handset?

This menu is specific to Orange. One of the main reasons for debranding in the first place is that you can't customise it, and some of the shortcuts are useless (i.e. Orange world and extra camera button). You can customise joystick shortcuts by using the more button from the main screen, I think.

The third line is not useful at all, it has 'Orange World', 'You and orange' (a help page that you would need to look at once at the most), and 'Find', which just takes you to Orange World, only at the bottom of the page, and highlights the 'Search option'!
This is why so many people hate the Orange F/W, you already have an 'Online' button on the side of the phone.

thanks for the reply.. i already realise that it is non-customisable on Orange fw, as i know some of the reasons for debranding my phone.
However, I was hoping that after debranding it would be a feature that I *could* customise.. an extra menu like that could come in handy...
Well, you've answered my main inquiry, which is that the menu is actually specific to Orange fw, and is not a feature you can use on a debranded phone. Shame really... ah well..

I used to find those 'mini icons' really useful, but now that I've debranded I can use the shortcut option instead!
I've noticed that after flashing there is a white border around the main menu icons (but only when you are 'hovering' over it). This does not seem to be theme specific, and was not there when I had the Orange firmware installed. Pictures of k700 menus also don't have this border.
Any ideas what might be causing this?!

That was probably the only thing I liked about the Orange firmware (even though a lot hated it) but I didn't like how it couldn't be customized. If you could have changed the shortcuts or had the option of removing it then it would be ideal. Still, the generic firmware shortcut method is sufficient and much faster to use.
It also sucked how they put a camera button in place of the "More" option which was a feature I got used to from using a unbranded T630. There's only one network I can give credit to on not completely butchering a phone and that's O2 but they're a bit sucky as a network.
It's bad enough that we have to live with ugly logos and a locked phone never mind the worthless customizations the network perform on the firmware. What do they have to gain? The most they need to do is lock the phone and maybe a start up/shutdown show. I wish they would leave the casing and firmware alone from that point.

As to what they gain, every time you look at your screen you basically have an advertisement for the camera feature and mobile internet - Orange probably think it makes you more likely to use either picture messaging or GPRS, which makes them money. I remember several posts from irate people who'd mailed Orange when the phone first came out, quoting a reply from Orange that referred to this branding choice as a 'business decision'....
