I'm posting this from my P900 as my pc has suddenly decided not 2 boot, keeps getting part way thru loading Win 2000 then I get a blue screen with lots of text & part of it saying 'Inacessible_boot_device

PC was running when I left it, came back & it'd switched itself off. Pressing power button didn't work, eventually worked after long 'resetting' press followed by another press, got part way thru loading then powered itself down, this happened few more times then I got those 'blue meanies'.

Is this a virus, broke hdd or new PC time?

Must be a virus. Did you try restoring master boot record? This message was posted from a K500

Seems like a virus played a bad game with ur boot record. If worst hdd failiur. Bt its unlikely coz pc goes halfway through. Try pressing f7 or f8 while booting and select safe mode. Or if u can re install windows. Or boot from win cd and and run repair. Its available on win xp but i dont know if its on win 2000. Hope this will help. This message was posted from a WAP device

If this happened to me, I'd backup all my important data by putting the HD into another working computer (ask a friend or a service center), reformat my HDD and reinstall a fresh Win2K and necessary apps, get latest updates and latest SP. Copy your files back from backup.

I just feel it safer to do this than to work with a questionably cured system.

@all- thanks for the help. I'll have another play and try 2 access links given when I get back from work, looks like a hdd problem!

I guess if this hdd won't boot I can stick it in one of those usb hdd cases & have a nice big portable drive!
