A friend of mine was going to buy Samsung SGH-E800.
After talking with me and with the help of the comparison on esato he changed his mind into buying a k700i
Look at the comparison, you'll understand why.

Samsung SGH-E800: 500 USD
Sony Ericsson K700i: 410 USD
I consider Samsung an outsider in the mobile phone business. The only thing of any value on their mobile phones is the camera. Which is why they are more expensive.
I consider my friend saved from paying more money, to buy a mobile phone that was not worth it.
Well, that’s not all. Another friend of mine didn't make it.
Last night I played around for the first time with a Nokia 6260. He bought it a few days ago.
I felt sooooooo lucky to have the k700i. Nokia 6260 has one of the most complicated menus I have ever seen on a mobile phone. WHY on earth would a mobile phone company create such a menu?
There are like 100.000 options with 100.000.000 submenus/subfolders and 100.000.000 options on each one of them. What the hell was Nokia thinking? Why can't you create a simple yet FUNCTIONAL menu?
And what about the size of that thing? It’s like a brick! If I had a few hundreds I could build a small house!
Anyway, I always thought of Nokia as the pioneer in the mobile phone business, but it seems to me that they are loosing ground as time passes by.
As for me, I consider buying the K700i and the DSS-25 SyncStation an investment, which means, that after 9 years of using Nokia phones, I’ll stick with SE for at least 10 more years.

I don't think the functions that the k700 have that the samsung don't have is THAT important... the battery time btw but not so much of the other things

I persuaded my friends sister to take a K700 instead of a D500. She is well happy with the choice. She was having network problems with O2 anyway so she only needed a gently nudge to move over to Orange and a K700i

Samsung usually launches its new model every 1-2 months.
The price of its fashion phones drops quickly
Samsung phones: beautiful color display, nice polyphonic ringtone (best polytone I've ever heard). E800 follow the new trend - slide-up simple fashion phones.
It doesnt said to me, but with a lot of teenagers in Asia - Samsung is the best choice as they change their phone several times a year.

Haven't really saved anyone else, but I nearly bought a D500 myself, untill I tried the S700i. The main reasons being the display and the duo slot, was worth the extra 30 quid
