Is it really anything to worry about or a load of fuss for nothing?

The threat is now very minimal and not destructive. But soon, it will be destructive and very real.

At this moment in time the chance of a symbian virus spreading in the wild like a pc one is very low,but many people believe that with more being written its going to become more of a problem, keep an eye on security vendors and see what the year brings.

I'm worried about Symbian getting like windows with viruses. I'm alarmed that viruses could possibly run up big bills & send mms, sms & emails without my knowledge.

I'm sure a virus is possible, but that would mean that someone has to have access to your phone. The most likely means of transmission would be bluetooth since phones aren't always connected to the internet unless you tell them to.
Keep bluetooth off in highly crowded places and set a timeout on your GPRS connection and you should be relatively safe.
