Philips has introduced a new version of their mobile processor chip they call the Nexperia;Sonyericsson has used nexperia generation chips in the P800/P900/P910 smartphones.

Thats the title,

so theyve used it in every P series phone. This is just a newer version?

Yes, it looks that way. are currently using Nexperia in its Symbian OS. The article makes it sound like we are in for a treat when use it in their next p series !

Quote: The PNX4008 is based on an ARM9 processor accelerated by dedicated, integrated engines providing high-end multimedia functions for excellent power consumption and overall system performance. The video and imaging system from Philips delivers full frame rate video for record/playback and video telephony, an enhanced music/audio system from CEVA, gaming subsystem using a PowerVR 3D graphics engine from ARM and Imagination Technologies, and a security subsystem from Discretix.

Sounds pretty good to me, can't wait.

Judging by this announcement, we should see the Pxxx sometime twards the end of this year. Unless has already taken shipment of these chipsets for manufacture and are carrying out testing.

However, my belief is that they will use the latest Symbian OS / UIQ together with this new multimedia chipset.

Has anyone got secs on which Nexperia chipset was used in the P800/900/910i series? Would be good to know since this will give us an idea on processor speed on these models and the upcoming one.

But like the quote in the above thread, you will be able to view video @ 30fps, which is a good sign.

Bring out the champagne, the food and the party costumes, cos we are in for a feast!!!!

I know I'm being picky here, but why couldn't SE have gone with the other chip. It sound a whole lot better and the announcement contains the magic phrase "high-end handsets" that we all here at esato love so much.

Here's the quote: "The company has also introduced the PNX5220, a Nexperia Multimedia Baseband for use in high-end handsets. It supports quad-band GPRS/EDGE and two-band UMTS. Its application processing performance is based on an ARM926 subsystem running at 208 MHz and multiple hardware accelerators. The PNX5220 runs video at 30 frames per second in CIF resolution, stereo polyphony with 64 voices and sound effects, and it provides the hooks for GPS and other connectivity functionalities, like WLAN and Bluetooth. It allows the phone to connect via the latest mobile connectivity standards like USB OTG and fast IrDa."

Is the P1000 really not due till the end of 2005?

As a P800 owner...I've already waited almost 2 years for it...Hmmm

Will probably get an XDA 2 then get whatever SE have available in another couple of years.....Shame they can't bring out hardware quicker.
