Is there anyway of changing the settings on my P900 so that the delivery reports are always on?

No, can't be done. You need to turn it on each time.
If ur on O2 it doesn't work anyway but u can insert *0# at the start of the message & u will get a report from O2

In my view, getting the delivery report for EVERY message clogs the networks unecessarily. It's a good idea to "ask" for a delivery report each time you need it, and that's what SE does.

SMSChat can turn delivery reports ON permanently, albeit it currently only works in Flip Open mode.

Thats just stupid, an sms report takes only a second or two across gsm, and an sms on average costs about 10p. Whereas for the same price you can make a phonecall for a lot longer for the same price. To say that sms reports would "clog" a network is just rubbish, and i doubt SE would care about that anyway. (in fact on most phones the operator can disable the delivery report function anyway, and orange did used to on PAYG)
