I dunno, maybe...
But I can definitely recommend a Creative Zen Micro (5Gb) player. Much better than an Ipod mini, and cheaper too.

If you're a music lover with different moods for music, iPod would be great specially for its good control over playlists. Although it has a large buffer to avoid skipping, I still wouldn't think it is ideal for activities that exposes it to vibrations, bumps, shock and similar. This might cause the microdrive (which is mechanical) to have a shorter life. Get an iPod Shuffle if you want to go jogging or aerobics, etc.
Best place to buy would be the nearest store in your place where you can easily get serviced in case something happens to your unit.

It's rumoured that the iPod mini will soon have 5gb capacity, so at least wait for that.
Cheapest country to buy iPods in appears to be Japan, if you can get one from there - although beware of import duty etc. if buying online, rather than in person.
Before taking the advice of anyone, compare the iPod to the Creative and Rio models yourself. Try them out in a shop. Also read a few comparison reviews.
(nickorooster himself was looking to
buy an iPod not so long ago - now he's recommending against it!)
There is a reason why the iPod is outselling everything else on the market by a considerable margin. Generally it comes down to the user interface, ease-of-use and design, and iTunes.
Anyway, here's a few articles to get you going:
iPod wins Danish People's Design Award
iPod wins 'Gold' in Japan's 'Good Design Awards'
iPod Packaging Wins Design Distinction Award
iPod Designer wins Design Museum's inaugural Designer of the Year award
Apple wins D&AD Gold Award, the pinnacle of creative achievement for Apple iPod
iPod wins Best Internet Audio Device award
iPod ads win Cannes Lions Award
Apple iPod interactive award nominee
iPod Mini wins Editor’s Choice award at CNET
And here's an independent review from the guys at The Register of the Creative Zen Micro, a supposed iPod mini competitor:
Creative Zen Micro 5GB music player
A few quotes:
"At 8.3 x 5 x 1.8, it lacks the cigarette-lighter slimness of the iPod Mini..."
"The display itself presents almost but
not quite an exact copy of the iPod UI"
"Another 'steal' is the ZM's ability to sync up with PIM software - Microsoft Outlook in this case"
"Creative quotes up to 12 hours for the ZM's playtime on a single charge. I got
just eight hours running two-odd hours' worth of 128Kbps MP3 files over and over out of the test machine's pre-installed power pack."
"Hidden inside the ZM is its 1" 5GB hard drive - a Seagate unit, I believe. Creative claims it's not only bigger than the iPod Mini's 4GB Hitachi HDD but more reliable. Maybe it is, but it's certainly a slow unit.
It takes around five seconds to start playing a new song"
"The ZM's hard drive can be used as a USB Mass Storage device, but you have to enable it to do so first - it's
by no means plug and play. Worse,
the player limits how much of its disk space can be used for general files - you can choose from 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and then in 512MB intervals up to 2GB."
"Pity PC users too. I installed WM10 and Media Explorer on a Sony Vaio running Windows XP pre-Service Pack 2 and got the Blue Screen of Death every time I tried to run the Creative Software."
Verdict
"The Zen Micro is a real improvement on Creative's previous compact HDD-based music player, the MuVo2, and over the company's large-format hard drive units, the Zen Jukebox range. I'm not sure about the line's bright colours but the white unit I looked is certainly Creative's best looking player yet.
But by trying too hard to look like an iPod, it risks being seen as a 'me too' product. That would be a shame - it's a good music player, and it's size, styling, capacity and radio make it a worthy challenger to the Apple product."

The ipod mini reads from the harddisk every 20mins or so. There are reports of skipping only after a long delay, obviously when the memory is near empty and the disk cant be read. Checkout www.macrumors.com as they have a buying guide for apple gear. If you're gonna get a mini, wait a month or so for the 5-8gb models to be announced.

I'm surprised none of you check out the iriver mp3 players, they are brilliant actually. Their rival to the ipod the H120(20gb) was simply brilliant coz at the same price n size it provided many extras like fm player, scratch resistant build, inline remote(very cool imo), more formats supported n firmware upgradable, better display with icon display. It got much better user reviews as well but unfortunately it sold out very soon(guess iriver didnt anticipate it would sell so well

) Now they have an ipod mini rival the H10 n it seems very temptin as well with a 262k tft, fm player, suport for txt n jpeg files, 5gb mem etc...check its review
