In my K508i, it seems that the camera is noisy in surroundings except in the bright sunlight. Why is this so? It seems to happen only when I snap the picture at 640x480 resolution. Noise is not so bad at 320x240 and 160x120... Why is this so?

Is this normal behaviour? And how do I tweak my camera so that it delivers less noisy pictures? Lowering the brightness still presents subtstantial amount of noise...

They are all like that & suffer from noise in low light. Its just because the sensor isn't good enough.

Choosing a smaller pic size (resolution) produces less noise but I'm not certain of the technical explanation for this

If you want to cut down on noise dont take pics on fine settings in low light conditions. Fine settings generally introduces a significant noise level specially if ambient light is not adequate however you can treat pics with some software like neat image etc n they turn up pretty good.

@cake, the noise, here means the disturbance in the picture, the brown, black and green dots that comes when taking picture in low light. This message was posted from a K500

So the problem I'm having here is normal and nothing to worry about? I'll try taking normal quality. Thanks!

I think the noise is software or processor related. In the viewfinder, before taking the picture, there is almost no noise. Writing the picture to memory apparently is more difficult than just generating it on screen.

Yes, this is what I experience. The viewfinder displays a very clear picture, when it gets taken, the picture gets noisy.
