My p910i is a great new phone, but it seems to have so many little pet peeves...this is one of them. Let me know if it is just my phone or is it like this with all p910s:

When I go to create a new SMS message from "Messages", and I add a contact (or multiple contacts) only the phone number is displayed in the "To" field. Why is this?? I want to know who I am sending messages to, especially when I am sending to multiple people. I don't memorize everyone's phone numbers. Or, when browsing through the sent items folder, if all I see is phone numbers it would be difficult for me to figure out who I sent a message to. Now, I figured out that the names are displayed when you first select the contact and choose to send a message from within the contact. But if you want to add additional recipient's to the message, only their phone numbers are displayed. Is this a glitch on my phone? Do I have a lemon?

Also, anyway to send an SMS message directly from numbers on the call list? Or anyway to quickly add a number on the call list to contacts? Again, basic features I had in my previous Nokia phone and cannot figure out how to do with my p910i

Thanks.

This is a "feature" of the P series, I'm afraid... it is quite annoying, and I've noticed it too. The messaging app in the P series has quite a few shortcomings... perhaps someone might want to program a better one? I'd certainly consider buying it, rather than some other useless backlight-controlling program!

Possible feature list:
- Switch between messaging app and other apps and back, without the message you're typing being placed into drafts, and you having to fish it out
- To: field contains contact names, instead of numbers
- Menu option to insert a number/e-mail address from a contact

I'm sure other people would have some suggestions. For me, the most annoying thing is this scenario: I am writing a text, and discover I need to insert someone's phone number into the message... I have to switch to Contacts, copy the contact's phone number, go back into messages, into SMS, switch to draft, select SMS I was working on, Paste and then continue the message... very contrived.
Even the Series 60 messaging app allowed you to insert contacts' numbers, and also allowed you to exit the messaging app, then switch back to it where you left off writing the message, instead of putting it in drafts.

Come on someone, get writing!

I totally agree with you. I would have thought that an app like this would be available. I would buy it in a heartbeat. I SMS a lot (at least I used to). But since I bought the p910, my desire to SMS is dwindling.

Yeah, the support for SMS is crap.

It was great on the N9210 where you could just type "paul" on the "to" box and it would come up with a selection window of:

Paula
Paul Robb
Paul Bartlett

etc.

Or if you typed "paul r" it would complete the name and send the SMS.

The P series has a lot of "features" missing in messaging app. This is just one of them but it does my head in.

i just noticed something. If you write a new message and then press back and pen the message again in draft in the To filed you can see the person's phone number and also the name of the person. It's a bit weird though that this doesnt seem to happen if you dont open the message in the draft directory
