> Problems with T28 Service cable & K700i
Bookmark topic
Hi,
I've just bought a T28 service cable and a couple of Total MultiServer credits, with the intention of debranding my O2 K700i.
I've read all about the process, and followed all the instructions but I'm stuck before I've even begun. Whenever I hit the "Read CID" button, TMS tells me to "PRESS ON BUTTON OF THE PHONE SHORTLY".
If DTR/RTS are both OFF, I turn phone on manually, it says "insert SIM". No response from TMS and I have to abort.
For all other combinations of DTR/RTS on/off, the phone starts to boot (whether I press the ON button or not), then says "charging" and powers off a second later. It then turns itself on and off repeatedly until I abort the connection.
The cable is set to 115200 baud and the COM port seems to be registered OK in device manager. The phone is also fully charged and the SIM removed. I'm using TMS v1.48.
I've tried reading the CID using the DaVinci software too but it does exactly the same as Total MultiServer (phone reboot loop), at any baud rate (up to and including 115200).
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know how I can get a connction without getting into a phone reboot loop?
I tried using a second PC to compare results, but that reboots the instant you run TMS so no joy there!
Cheers for any help.
Fixel.

BTTT for help again.
Mods - maybe this should be moved to Technical? Sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

When it says power on the phone shortly, are you actually powering on the phone completely? If so, this is incorrect. You need to just press the power button the phone quickly.
I just unlocked a friend's phone with a T28 service cable, albeit using SE Tool, and I had DTR and RTS enabled. It worked flawlessly first time.
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for your response.
When DTR/RTS were enabled (either or both), the phone powered itself on, then started to reboot endlessly. I did nothing.
When DTR/RTS were disabled, there was no response, so I turned the phone on normally. I'll try this again, but only touch the button quickly, but it'll have to be tomorrow (cable is at work). Maybe that's the problem, but I'm not hopeful.
I've tried the TMS software on 4 other PCs but can't get it to run (error codes on load or instant BSOD!) so need to hunt for another PC which will run it (so I can dismiss any possible problems with the COM port on my main PC).
I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Okay. Just so you can eliminate this as the problem, ensure that you literally push the power button briefly - that's all it means by "power on the phone shortly".
Have the Total MultiServer team not given you any help? If they're useless, sell the credits here on Esato to someone else, and I'd recommend you use SE Tool instead - PM
gbrooks3 if you're interested.

This might be a stupid question, but: Are you sure you have a SERVICE and not a DATA cable?
Totalserver has yet to fail me, even if it has acted up on two occasions, where remedy was removing and reinserting battery before jabbing the powerbutton again.

I ordered a service cable. This one:
http://www.faceoffmobiles.com[....]csson-Cable--totalcredQQAcable
Is the only way to verify that it's definately a service cable to pull off the cover and check the pin connections? (I remember reading a page describing the slightly different pinout)
I tried removing the battery many times, but it didn't seem to make a difference.
I've emailed faceoffmobiles for help, but so far they've only suggested trying a different PC. That's fair enough. I want to try eliminating things one at a time (including user error

) before I try some different software, but cheers for the info Sebby.
I'll see how it goes tomorrow.
