morning!
my mate wanted the sweety the chick ringtone so i found the mp3 and downloaded.
i bluetoothed it from my p8 to her n6600, it accepted it and completed the download but refused to let her save or play it. the message was "incompatible file type". now we both know the 6600 plays mp3s so what could the problem be? are there different types of mp3?
it works fine on my p8.
cheers!

Thats just typical of a Nokia handset, they are completely retarded. I avoid Nokia's at all costs.
As for your question, try re-encoding the MP3 using this application>

No 6600 doesn't support mp3 tones,pc suite auto converts to wav when you transfer from the comp.

Well if the mp3 file is een mp3pro file (they have the same extensions as normal mp3 files), than it's quite possible the Nokia 6600 doesn't have native support for mp3pro files because of the different compression technique.
Is this the case with all mp3 files or just this particular one you're trying to send?
