> Dead P900 - I think!
Bookmark topic
Had my Orange Contract P900 since November, however upon charging this morning, it froze. No biggy I thought, just restart it. After getting the menu with "Phone on, Flight Mode, help" etc on, I selected my option and it booted as normal.
However after that it keeps rebooting itself time after time after time giving the:
"This phone restarted to improve peformance message."
With the occasional application error window that appears just behind it, so I thought the software was f**ked.
So obviously made it unusable, with sim, without sim, with duo, without duo, no matter what option I selected I managed to get this error.
So I try to recover it on the Update Service, it gets as far as 67% and sticks and gives a communication error. Since then the phone does not turn on at all, and just flashes white, I can run update service still, but it freezes at the same point. Orange say I need to send it for SE but because it had a knock 4-5 weeks ago they will charge me as it has a small scratch.
I say I never had any problems until taking it out of the charger today so I don't expect to pay for it. Do I just send it to Sony Ericsson now to do something with it? Any ideas what could be wrong, and what proof of purchase do I need to send to SE's mail order service centre? Just I don't kinda have the receipt that came with the phone...

Have u tried a Master Reset & Format of the internal drive?
If its still dead just send it to SE (u can ring them for details on where to send it).
Don't mention any 'knocks' etc. They won't charge u just cos it's scratched!

it is normal for a 156 Mhz phone, sometimes my 3.2 Ghz comp. crashes also and restart itself for performance
i had had that problem 2 weeks ago, i think the reason is
a) you have downloaded a lot of program
b) you have opened too much program, by the way, no free memory
c) software is f**ked
b is more similar to your problem, guess on it

How do I do those? I can't get the phone to come on AT ALL, it just flashes white screen and resets time after time again now after failing in the update.

Can i just say.. it is NOT normal for a 3.2Ghz machine to randomly crash and reboot to 'improve performance', that's the biggest load of sh!t i've ever heard.
My PC is 2.4Ghz, and it NEVER reboots, not unless i tell it to. It is perfectly stable. If a computer reboots on its own accord, there is something seriously wrong with it. The same goes for the P900, except not as serious. It's probably due to lack of space. Windows has an orgy if you get low on disk space, so does the phone, it has nowhere to think, and therefore crashes.
Try clearing out some stuff using a PC File Manager if at all possible. If not, wipe the whole thing clean, or if you can't access the service menu, use the 'Restore' option of the update service to completely wipe the phone without it running the operating system.
If you haven't backed up your data, tuff, you'll learn
Hope this helps,

And if it still don't work? It just gets stuck at 66%.

Even on Restore? Have you tried taking the battery out, and holding the power button for 10 seconds?
If the restore method isn't working then it sounds like you've got a problem. A restore worked on a water damaged P900 with connectivity issues for me, so if it doesn't work with your phone, then i think there's something up.
Might be a service center job. Is it still under warranty?

Tried everything, nothing works, don't have a local SE Service Centre, they said send it to Hays postal Service Centre, but they want proof of purchase and this was a contract upgrade.

are you sure you cant send it through orange? or at least get some sort of proof of purchase from them?
when my p900 broke i just took it to an O2 shop, they then sent it to Hays for me - i just had to fill in a form.
basically - even though the phone will eventually have to go to Hays, it should be orange that are sorting it out for you.
