Hey, i just bought a p900 and what can i say... WOW, this phone is the only one ive ever used which has left me wondering if ive bought something too advanced or too many features for me. Anyway back to the point of this message..

As ive never owned this phone before im unsure of a great many things so if someone could either give me a few urls with some good information which would suite me or answer these questions please.

1, What series symbian does the phone run?

2, What applications should i get which would enhance my phone experience? (im not a business user just a phone junky really who lovesw technology.)

3, What are the best games to get?

4, I heard there is a program which converts dvds into movies ready to stick on your phone, is this true? and whats the name of the program?

5, Any useful information you can give a beginner to this phone?

Im not new to symbian phones, i used to have an n-gage which runs series 60 symbian and ive played around with that oo so much so i know my phones its just this is a dif version of symbian.

Welcome to Esato and to the P900 users club! You have one of the most desirable and best PDA phones in your hands:) There are many threads here which should be of help to you in making full use of your phone. And yes! The P900 uses Symbian Uiq as its OS. Have fun! This message was posted from a T230

Welcome to Esato

For your question no 4 (This really covers question 2 as well); Have a look here. I use it and I'm getting envious looks over my shoulder all the time when I travel to work by train.

yes, do look around the forum a bit. you'll find more than what you're actually looking for.

but since you're new, i'll answer the questions right here instead of pointing you all over the place.
----------------------------
1, What series symbian does the phone run?

the px00 series runs symbian OS 7 with UIQ user interface.
other phones that use it are the motorola a925, a1000. well there are more, but i can't think of them right now
----------------------------
2, What applications should i get which would enhance my phone experience? (im not a business user just a phone junky really who lovesw technology.)

even if you don't use your phone for business, you do use it to organize your life.
i strongly suggest you get a calendar replacement. popular choices are handy day, aqua calendar and tracker (i think).
i have handy day 2004, which gives me the perfect week-view that the on-board calendar lacks.
handy day 2005 is more of a tracker-imitation, it does not include the calendar, i think, it only gives you weather info and skinning capabilities.
(skinning is when you make your p900 look and feel like a windows xp desktop, or macintosh.)

to read ebooks, get mobipocket (free) or handy day (not free).
----------------------------
3, What are the best games to get?

no idea, i don't play games on mine.
----------------------------
4, I heard there is a program which converts dvds into movies ready to stick on your phone, is this true? and whats the name of the program?

someone already answered that question, i'm no expert, i just know that there is a DaVideo version that works fine with pocket-pcs. it compresses movies to desired file-sizes. you'll most probably need a better video-player as well, since the files are often DivX or Xvid compressed.
----------------------------
5, Any useful information you can give a beginner to this phone?

don't drop it. charge properly, always let it run down to under 5% batt power, then give it a full charge. turn gprs to auto. try a screen-protector. don't put it in your pants-pockets since you'll probably squish it while sitting down, cracking flip, or screen, or both. look at it once a day and say "wow ... you are everything i always wanted a phone/pda combination to be"
enjoy it

ok thanks for all your help but i got one more question, i will search the forums soon but as ive just reformatted my computer i dont really have the time to search post after post. Anyway... is there any easier way to put files on my p900 without using the default software used? im putting on a small 15mb video file and its taking forever.

Get a cheap memory card reader and put your Memory Stick directly in there, it will transfer a whole lot quicker than it does over the USB Cable.

If you want to transfer files to the phone's memory, get something called File Manager for the Pxxx series.

PM me regarding that and i'll send it to you.
