> How to review startup?
Bookmark topic
Hi!
Where/how can i see which programs put themselves into
autostart?
Besides looking into the options of the programs of course
Any startup.ini or such? I've browsed the whole filesystem but
didn't stumble across anything like that...

I don't know of any particular file with a list but u can simply install SMan & see what apps are running immediately after startup

No, u misunderstood me
What programs are running after booting should be clearly
visible, i want to know where these programs request their
autoboot-state.
Thought of a simple autorun.ini or whatever...
Makes me somehow wondering how programs can easily set to autostart WITHOUT asking for my permission first or
at least without any (known?) ways to REVIEW the current state of apps in autostart...stupid if you ask me.
Best virus overall would be a single app that puts itself into autostart and just reboots if started. Booom, phone worthless.

Well if u use SMan u could see if ANY apps have autostarted. If not then u obviously won't be able to find the file that starts them.
I have though seen such a file, I'll look around & let u know

Would be fine, thanks in advance...
But seeing them in sman would be impossible (or 2 late) in my above mentioned example of baaaaaaad misuse....

OK the only one I can see at the moment is for SE Desktop which autostarts & has the following file:
C:\system\AUTOSTART\desktop.ast
I do hope you're not considering making a virus!!!

Hell no...i'm a logical person and i see no logical reason why i should
do such things.
Nonetheless i'm too old for this and too smart to first ask for help
But thx, will check that out...can't imagine what symbian thought of when providing a securityhole larger than a barn door.

@Tyger:
Since there is no standard way for third party application to startup their application in Symbian, a workaround was developed. The basic idea was to write an OS recognizer file which the Symbian OS will execute everytime the OS starts or if a media is inserted and has it's own recognizer files in the media. So, the recognizer, instead of telling the OS what application to launch with a particular file extension, uses that "opportunity" to launch it's own applications.
So, everybody does that (ie. write their own recognizers which you can find in the x:\system\recogs folder). That alone does not tell you what applications get launched, but anything out of the ordinary there will give you an indication that this is being done.
Hope this explains everything and nobody is confused sick by my explaination.
