> Flash Lite Support in SE Phones?
Bookmark topic
I've searched the forum and not found any threads which surprises me. Although not something I'm an expert on, I know several Flash Lite developers, and they are very excited about the increase in phones that will run Flash apps (Nokia, Motarola + all major brands etc etc)
Nokia have got full support for it, but SE?
the P series support it and the V800 does, but what about everything else? I see the new K600i won't, and I very much doubt the Clara will.
We've noticed the lack of new SE phones recently - plenty of threads about it - but have SE taken their eye off the ball? The K600i is impressive because of it's size, but not in terms of support/features.
What do you think?

Soney Ericsson has support for SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), which is a "standard" way of doing animation...
This support is in the K500, K700, S700, V800, and i think the Z1010.
There is very little that can be done with Flash lite, than cannot be done with SVG, and as i said, SVG is an open standard ratified via the W3C (its just an XML file). whereas Flash lite is proprietry to Macromedia.

AFAIK Flash Lite will only work on Symbian Phones as it requires a plugin which is not Java based. So it will not work on models that support only Java apps like T, K, Z, series. This is technology is still very much under development now and only very few phones have been fully tested to work with it.

it's a simplified version of Flash which is designed to work on mobile phones - mostly based on the old Flash 4.

Bah, the lite module costs us all US$9.95, and honestly the only application its useful for atm is i-mode rubbish, even though a p910i version is available. The better option for us is to develop a plugin for mobile Opera.

it wouldnt cost us anything if SE licensed it. Macromedia are only selling the Flash Lite player in their store for developer testing/development purposes.
I dont know much about SVG, but can you build applications with it? Can you make network connections? I thought a few phones already supported tiny SVG - so wheres the content? This is the crucial point - a great plugin doesnt mean anything unless people are able and willing to build great content for it. Which is the great thing about Flash Lite - there is already some great content being produced for it, before it emerges in handsets.
