> v800 unlocked only or unlocked AND unbranded?
Bookmark topic
hey guys... sorry if this has been discussed, but i couldn't seem to find the answer.
i'm from the US and am debating buying an unlocked v800 to use in the states. i was hoping someone could tell me if the phone will work properly unlocked only? i've read the mp3 issue is the biggest concern, but is that the only issue? does the "live!" button act as the regular SE "more" button?
any help would be appreciated!
thanks!

Welcome to Esato
Unlocked means the SIM lock is released so it will work on any Network but doesn't mean it is unbrandel.
Branding is done with firmware & so to unbrand it must be flashed with unbranded SonyEricsson firmware

The live! softkey is the more softkey in the generic

firmware.
In order for you to get rid of all Vodafone branding u will have update the firmware with the latest Z800 firmware.
The Z800 is the unbranded version of the V800 and is identical.
Hope this makes sense!

great to be here, thanks!
ok, gotcha... about the "live!" key. i'm glad to know it's the same menu as a normal SE "more" menu.
besides the mp3 issues, does unbranding do anything else besides getting rid of the vodafone logos and such?

It takes everything related to Vodafone away...including the wap/live settings, any games loaded in the firmware for Vodafone and ringtones etc.
Obviously it also removes the DRM restrictions too. Basically, take a S/K700i and look @ that you get more or less the same bar a few extra features!
Check out the folowing thread for more info on whats there and whats not after debranding:

I don't think he meant the Live! softkey performs the same function as the 'more' softkey because it doesn't.
He just meant that the Live! becomes 'more' when u get SE f/w.
The Live! button(s) take u to Vodafone Live! services

thanks for being so helpful! i'm new to all of this.
ok, so even with the new firmware, the softkey will say "more" but still act like the former "live!" key?
if i get an unlocked only phone, i just wanted to make sure it could perform everything here in the US (texting, web browsing, etc). or, do i absolutely need an unbranded one as well?

Holz, with the Z800 firmware flashed into the V800 the Live! buttn is replaced with More and functions as a more button does on any other

phone.
In other words u get a genuine

experience with
absolutely no Vodafone interference.

To avoid any confusion:
-A V800 with Voda f/w has the Live! softkey. This goes to Voda Live! services.
-A V800 flashed with unbranded SE (Z800) f/w has the 'more' softkey. This performs the functions like other SE 'more' keys
