Now, i might just be getting a new pc later this month or early next month. I have my eyes set on a 15 inch LCD monitor rather than a 17\" CRT. Apart from being a good looker and a space saver, what advantages does an LCD screen have over a normal CRT? Should i opt for the 17 inch CRT or the sleek LCD? More help regarding my pc will follow soon. I have to figure out what specs my pc should have. Regards, whiz. :-) This message was posted from a T230

just remember that CRT measurements are not the screen size but the case size so 17" CRT usually means something between 15.8" and 16" actual screen area

if thats your choice better to go for LCD for many many reasons

Hmmm...ok. I'll confirm that from my dealer. But what about the picture quality? I've heard that the colour reproduction on an LCD isn't as good as that of a CRT. Any truth behind this? This message was posted from a T230

Maybe if you are big into gaming a CRT might be best. However not too sure if this still matters with the newest LCD screens as they might be capable, havent read up on it much lately. Personally i would recommend a nice sleek LCD, far nicer, space saving and doesnt ruin your eyes as much. This message was posted from a K700i

And any ideas as to which brand to choose from? There are many options like Philips, LG, samsung, viewsonic, benQ etc. This message was posted from a T230

When reproducting high detail picture LCD is very bad. Models that have same quality as CRT cost very much. My opinion is either gather money for a good LCD or buy simple CRT. This message was posted from a T610

Fair enough. But my question is, which of these have more positives than negatives. I'm not into gaming that much. I would be using it for browsing the net and some movies etc. And of course! I'm into programming so it will be my study centure too! This message was posted from a T230

I am in love with my new TFT monitor, got it for really cheap, and although its not a brand name, it is really good quality (compared with LG Flatron and Dell TFT) and now you can get a better model for less than I got mine for Here

Thats www.aria.co.uk

Very good place for TFT monitors .

@whizz all monitors (LCD or CRT) are measured diagonally eg my Vaio lappy and SyncMaster measure 15" (12" x 9").
As above unless you're a serious gamer (CRT have/had a much superior refresh) go for LCD as CRT's also have the extra bulk of plastic around the frame as well as the depth - much cleaner look.
I can recommend the digital Samsung SyncMaster I (the kids) have had absolutely no problems with it despite the pokes and prods.

PS. see if @plasmadog has any recommendations
