I want to cancel my existing T-mobile contract and open a new one with them.

What do i have to do just pay the remaining line rental?? Do i have to give back the phone because i stood on it and broke it. oops.

And will i have to take proof of ID to cancel?

You can cancel your contract over the phone, they ask you for the password that you stated when you first signed up as proof of identity. If you can't remember that password, call into a t-mobile shop and they'll give you a number you can call to get through to an operator who's IQ is greater than their shoe size, which is a rarity for T-Mobile. That's what I ended up having to do after their 'standard' operators refused to even talk to me because I couldn't remember my password (i'd been with them for three years before they totaly screwed me over and had never had to call them previously)

They will try to charge you the monthly fee for the remaining period of your contract and, knowing them, a cancelation fee also but if you tell them just how c**p they are, over and over again, and how unhappy you are with their service you might just get away with it, although I wouldn't bet on it.

Good luck

They didn't ask for mine back, so I'd say no. If they do, just say that you 'know' other people who were with T-Mobile and they weren't asked to give it back. I wouldn't put anything past T-Mobile, they make the rules up as they go along.

You don't have to return the phone, thats what the 200 cancellation fee is for. (in their opinion) The only thing is, if you intend to re-start service with them, they won't consider you a new customer and you won't get any deals on phones. You should instead talk to their customer retention department and they will set things straight.

Makes no difference. The person in the shop will treat you like a new customer until they register your name and address over the phone or internet, then they'll find out that you are a previous customer.

Why not go with another network instead? I'n fact, if you take out a contract with another network right now and make sure to tell T-Mobile about it the same day, they might offer you a good deal in order to get you to cancel your new contract during the cooling off period.

Although if I were you I'd go with a different network anyway

But they are offering half price line rental for 9 months and you can get a free V3 or D500.

For only 13.00 a month you get 200 mins X-network and 200 txts

Yeah, they're great at enticing new customers. Shame they don't look after their existing ones.
