Does any1 have this or has anyone ever had the chance to mess about with it.

It's going for cheap at expansys around 30-40 quid i think and I believe that when it first came out it was priced in the region of 150 - 180.

I just wanted to know whether it would be a worthwhile addition to my SE accessories collection.

Cheers

When the price has dropped to that level it's worth the money, yes.

I was concidering buying one when they first hit the shelves but found it way too expensive. After that I've spoken to people who has/had it and they were telling me it it works fine but is a bit fiddly to operate.

I find it hard to believe will ever make something similar again, so; as part of a collection you better get.

I bought one when it cost Euro 45 from Expansys.com

not bad cause the package give you a 64MB MSD....pity the battery stand by is short due to AAA battery used (1 pcs)

you can save some $ by using a rechargable NiMH batt....recommended you get 900mAH (Latest should be at 950mAH) so it last longer.

one more tips...if you are putting MSD in the unit, it will consume some charges even at standby. So take the MSD out when you are not listening to song.

Why not have a look at my guide to the HBM-30 here.

Maybe this will help you decide.

I read Gaijinsan's guide to the HBM-30. Very good information and it's really remarkable that this information is not available from Sony or Sony Ericsson. I use a HBM-30 since almost a year but only with MP3-files and only occasionally due to the high battery consumption. Now I'll try to use it with atrac-coded files transferred with the Sonic Stage software I just downloaded. I have an Antec pc-card Memorystick reader for my laptop but this reader has no Magicgate functionality so now I need to get a Sony Magic gate pc-card reader maybe like MSAC-PC3 or MSAC-MCF1N (compact flash size). Anybody knows if these readers have the Magicgate functionality?
