Hi!

BT makes me nuts!
I had major connection problems with my MSI Dongle (1.3 drivers) and WinXP.
I reinstalled XP and the problems persisted.
I reinstalled XP now with SP2 and the problem persisted
I bought a new stick with widcomm 1.4.3.4 drivers, reinstalled XP with SP1 and the problem persisted
I reinstalled XP with SP2 and....guess what?

Problem is: Connection is done most of the time, i.e.
call the phone (make serial port con), phone calls back, con done.
But when i now right-click on the BT-icon, BT crashes.
I can restart bt-tray.exe then but...this can't be it, can it?
Also, connection does not last very long most of the time, sometimes
it just breakes, and reconnection is impossible because BT does crash then.

I'm down to the point, that it's not my fault, but i can't believe
BT for PC sucks bigtime in reliabilty...or does it?
Anyone?

Hmmm.. Bt works like a charm for me with XP, service pack 2 & my k700i. I did read in one of the threads though that sp2 could sometimes cause some problems This message was posted from a K700i

That's weird. I have MSI PC2PC with widcomm 1.4.3.4 and WinXP SP2 and no problems so far. I did have problems with the SP2 native bluetooth drivers, but once I got rid of them - no more problems.

I have the same kind of problem on w2k. I installed it yesterday, so i didn't have a long time to play around with it yet.
Disabling the option to let your computer search for new BT devices every minute or so seems to help...

@evd: hmm, will check that out now thanks for the tip.

@others: Have these probs with SP2 native AND/OR widcomm, does not make any difference.

So strange, some have these probs while some have not.
Can USB the reason? Don't think so...
The Mainboard? Don't think so either...

Well for most things i can partly live with this, but using BT for remote-controlling my PC from another room (music/video) is useless, coz the connection doesn't last for the length of a movie

What i forgot:
After connecting i cannot access the BT-Tray icon anymore. Nonetheless the connection is established and working.
As soon as i touch the icon, BT crashes instantly
No matter what drivers, stick or ServicePack *grrrr*

I find that anytime I right click BT icon it crashed. I have not done that for awhile and things seem fine. Instead of right click I just click on the desktop icon.

Mm... I think its from service pack. XP SP2 have its own driver for BT. If U'r stick are Plug and Play, XP will instal it automatically. This can fixed by rename and remove files (search forum to find the file, cos i'm forget it)then i've never got an problems. May be widcomm crash with it... This message was posted from a T630

the easiest way is to stop all connections from the interent when u install ur bt software and driver.. so, it won't automatically install the ms driver, which will screw up many things

even if it has Microsoft drivers, you can right click on the driver in your hardware manager and select "update driver" then selcect your Widcomm driver off of your CD and voila.

I've never had your specific tray icon issue, but in general you can tell that Windows bluetooth is not a finished product. Everything with bluetooth is a little more complicated than it needs to be. Microsoft needs to seriously redo the bluetooth interface for their next service pack or operating system.
