> Name from SIM or contacts? What decides?
Bookmark topic
I have only a few numbers on my SIM card, the most necessary ones, whilst the Contacts app on the phone has all the rest of them.
I added my girlfriend's new number to my SIM card under the name "Paula cell", whilst the Contacts app has her full name "Paula Andersson".
Nothing weird about that. But here's the thing that got me thinking:
After I had added her number as "Paula cell" on the SIM card, all my SMS messages from her in the Messages app are stated as recieved from "Paula cell" - not "Paula Andersson".
Hope you're with me so far.
Now, what makes the SIM card take over like this? It also happens with some other contacts, like my boss' name "Liza" (on SIM) and "Liza Åström" in Contacts.
It just makes no sense to me - the SMS messages aren't even stored on the SIM card, but on the phone as usual, and still it keeps getting the names from the SIM.
It's not a major issue really, but a minor and annoying one. Happened on both my P900 and P910i.

Why don't yo try giving them both the same name (Paula cell on sim than Paula cell on phone also).

Yep, that works and I have done it, but the thing is that I sometimes use my SIM in older cellphones that can't handle long names.
But most importantly, I'd just like to know _why_ this happens. Curious.

i second that. it's simply annoying. most of my contacts are business and consequently have both first AND last name. i hate to see the names trunkated because the p910 decides for some unknown reason to use the sim which is limited to 12 or 14 characters. yet another bug...
