When purchasing a sony ericsson handset, does anyone consider the SAR level of the handset or just phone features?

true but mobiles phones still cause health problems.
Electromagnetic radiation tramsmit from phones and directly to ear and then brain and in the long term this can be harmful.
The government beleives young children in particular should use phones as less as possible.
whether phones cause cancer or tumour is still relatively unkonwn.

I care about it a lot. Once I bought a Z600 due to the fact that it had the lowest value (0.16).
Then the K700 was introduced with pretty low value as well (0.48) - at least compared to many other phones. I use a handsfree a lot though.
Holding a phone to your ear is like eating medicine that hasn't been tested... It's just to much money in the mobile phone industry to let scientists tests be objective at the moment.
Phone developers spend billions developing phones - they spend peanuts researching the effect on human brains.
Governments all around the world accept that there is practically no research on the effect of the brain... to many people are involved in the phone industry to risk panic... the small man who works there needs to pay his bills... the hot shot bosses needs new cars and furs for their wifes and mistresses... where would all these people get a job if it turnes out that the phones kills us? Shareholders need their piece of the cake... etc. etc.
In 10-25 years medical doctors will be able to tell us the result of this (hopefully) never ending discussion! But not through research - through hard facts due to the lack of research!
