As the subject says i have a madgoat running wild in my pc (xp home), apparently the diseased scum has been living quite content for the last 2 years.
I have 2 firewalls running, also microsoft antispyware (beta), aol spyware (web based) and norton anti virus running as well, but i am always sceptical of long running programmes so i gave protector plus a run (another anti virus) which keeps telling me about the madgoat virus.
to get a little bit technical the file is msthost.exe which i have searched for and identified as a virus but it cant be deleted so its been put in quarantine were there is about 30 of the same file, BUT i can not find any information about madgoat.backdoor (correct spelling) and it is still there eating my memory (i think cos a dont know what it does to be exact)
if any body has any info for me it would be great cos its doin me head in now
cheers

If it can't be deleted because it's memory resident, then restart in Safe Mode and run the antivirus that finds the virus, then you should be able to delete it. If the antivirus won't run in safe mode, you'll have to find the infected files yourself, which will be easy given that you know the filename. Bear in mind that it could be a hoax, though, and you might end up deleting system files!
