Apologies this is rather non-mobile related, but I am selling a phone in the for sale section (so kind of mobile-related!

), and have been offered a PS2 by a member in the US. Now, I suspect that PS2s will only play a certain region's games, but will the PS2 play British/European-bought games without modification? If not, what modifications are required, i.e. chipping, certain lids fitted, etc.? Are there any specification differences?
Also, would there be any voltage issues? Obviously I'd need a UK plug adaptor if I go this route, but are there any problems with different voltages/ampages?

Well my old UK PS2 wouldn't play US games so I don't think a US machine would play UK games either without being chipped.
Chipping them will let it play copies as well as foreign games but u risk it blowin-up!

That's something I don't really fancy doing, I'd probably bugger it up trying to chip it anyway. Why do they make things like PS2s and DVDs region specific, is it just to stop people buying games and DVDs from other countries where it's cheaper and importing them?

So it would be a bad idea to get a ps2 from the US then, as they also use NTSC don't they?
