Here I go... my first post to what seems to be a tremendously vibrant internet community. I am impressed by all that I've read so far...
I am the owner of a K700i purchased last October. I have been very happy with the phone in most respects save one-- the bluetooth function works only intermittently. Though I have had no problem syncing the contact info in my address book with my computer, but the phone’s performance while paired with my wireless headset has been woefully inadequate. In my attempt to troubleshoot this issue I have made sure that both devices (handset and earpiece) have been fully charged. At times, the headset (originally a Jabra Freespeak 250) has connected without incident but more often than not prompts from the headset to initiate calls result in nothing at all. Other times, appearing on the phone is the Bluetooth icon followed by two arrows indicating that Bluetooth communication is "in progress". Unfortunately it never seems to get beyond this phase-- and oftentimes the phone must be rebooted in order to move on.
I have on several occasions, tried repairing the phone with the headset. This has done nothing to resolve the performance issue.
I have considered the possibility that the problem lies with the headset itself, and two weeks ago I purchased a Motorola HS 810. With this new headset, the problem has persisted exactly as it had with the Jabra. The frustration has been so great that I no longer use my k700i-- opting instead for my antiquated Sony Ericsson T-68 (with which both headsets work flawlessly). Features such as Mp3 ring tones, a beautiful screen and a decent camera are no substitute for a properly functioning earpiece.
I occurred to me that by updating the firmware on my phone I might be able to resolve this issue (along with the annoying 2 second lag upon the reception of a call)-- but I cannot find an authorized SE service center in my area.
Not knowing what else to do, I sent the phone back to the online store from which it was purchased with the assumption that they could help me.
So I got a call from the dealer yesterday-- and wouldn't you know it-- they detect no problem with the bluetooth function! I never said that it was completely dysfunctional- but that it worked only intermittently. Very frustrating indeed. And to top it all off, they told me that they don't do firmware updates!
What should I do?
Who will update my phone?

Have you tried the phone with another bluetooth device to find out if there's any connection problems such as another phone or computer dongle? If so, the retailer needs to be made sure of this because who knows how they're testing it and it's pretty certain they're not paying that much attention.
As for updating the firmware, I recommend you buy a DSS-25 and do it yourself using SE's site. They're not expensive and leaves you with something to transmit data between your phone and PC.

It pairs with my computer okay-- but those times in which I needed to pair the phone with the computer are few and far in between. If I had had the forethought to experiment before sending the phone away I might have tried to repeatedly sync the two devices in order to better understand the frequency of bluetooth failure. As it is-- I only observed problem with the headsets.
The flawless performance of my two headsets with my old T68i suggests that something is up with my k700i.
I guess I'll look into the DSS-25.
Thanks for the reply.

Depending where you live you can send your K700i to
http://www.globalmob.com/cart/customer/home.php
if you live in the US. Or check with masseur if you live in Great Britain.
There is also an online update service from SE for the K700i available.
