what are the chances it could be altered for use in the k750?
this is really bugging me, would the k750 perform as a walkman then?

3. I'm betting the K750 can be used as a walkman in a similar way such as a K700 without going through the hassle of editing the firmware.

Well afaik the things which push w800 as a walkman phone are hardware related like battery,better headphones,better speaker(speculating here), maybe some hardware tweaks to optimize handling of music files particularly. Other features like flight mode, ability to play mp3 with phone off etc could be implemented via a firmware tweak perhaps

My guess is that they are based on same hardware platform (provided by Ericsson Mobile Platform) and hence the FW is exchangable.
Its not a coincidence they look very similar.
