Am I missing something obvious, or does everyone else, when they're typing an apostrophe on the onscreen keyboard, have to switch to 123 mode, select apostrophe, and then switch back to abc mode?
Seems kinda strange that one of the most used punctuation marks is hidden away, but things like %, & and ^ are just a shift key away!

Any way to change the keyboard layout to my own preference (i use eZitap)?

I don't think you're missing anything. I use Ezitap too, and that's exactly the way I get my apostrophe or even the dash (--)

Yeah, it's a pain. EZiTap helps a bit, because many apostropied (new word?!) words are already suggested before you need to type the apostrophe in.

For example, type d-i-d-n and choose "didn't" from the list without needing to switch to 123 and back.

Yeah, I actually use the handwriting recognition, and have found a way to write an apostrophe of sorts, it looks the same, but it takes up about 20 or so characters in an sms message! I don't know what thats about.

So, I actually open up the virtual keyboard, then tap 1,2,3 then the apostrophe then close the keyboard again. I just don't bother with the apostrophe sometimes, its just a hassle. So is there something I'm missing?

isn't apostrophe on the handwriting recognition just ¬
?

and eZitap is a pain in the arse cos if I type 'I', it just suggests 'I'... If I want I've, I'm, I'd, I'll etc... I've got to type the apostrophe before it'll suggest them... kinda defeats the purpose.

nickrooster, you're probably handwriting some Unicode character, which switches the message to 8-bit, therefore losing 7/8ths of the available message length. Use the ¬ action to get a proper ASCII ' apostrophe, rather than something like `

the apostrophe is only 1 simple stroke away...you should look at the handwriting recognition help section as all the characters are listed there

Yes, it's rather bad planning not to have ' and - available on the QWERTY onscreen keyboard. A real pain to have to switch back and forth to the 123 one.

Can someone explain what eZitap is and how to access it? Thanks

Only way I've found so far is the 1-2-3-apostrophe method
