> What does "end paragraph" char do?

hi,
can someone tell me what does end paragraph character do? since i'm new to SE phones, i'm wondered what is the difference between end paragraph (the third character of # key) and carriage return (the second one).
while composing a message or writing a note, it shows a line but after saving it changes its behavior to normal return char!:-?
